Shopify Plus costs $2,300 a month on a three-year term or $2,500 a month on a one-year term. Those are the US dollar prices, charged in the United States and in any country without its own Plus currency, according to Shopify's Plus pricing page and help center. We checked every price on this page on October 11, 2026, and list the pages under Sources at the end. Larger or more complex businesses can be moved to a variable platform fee based on revenue, and Shopify does not publish its rate.
The license is one line of the budget. Card processing, apps, the build and any extra stores come on top. On the card rates Shopify advertises, and assuming you stay on the flat fee, Plus only becomes cheaper than Advanced at about $9.6 million a year in online card sales. At that volume Shopify may quote a variable platform fee instead, which changes the result. This guide prices each line, shows the arithmetic, and ends with a short test for whether Plus is worth it for your store.
Every price on this page is in US dollars. Shopify lists Canadian Plus prices in Canadian dollars, at different figures, and our Shopify Plus cost in Canada guide covers them.
How much does Shopify Plus cost in 2026?
Shopify Plus is $2,300 a month on a three-year term or $2,500 a month on a one-year term, billed monthly in US dollars (Shopify Help Center). That is $27,600 or $30,000 a year. Shopify describes these as the prices for "standard setups and integrations".
| Plan and term | Per month | Per year | Minimum commitment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus, 3-year term | $2,300 | $27,600 | $82,800 over 36 months |
| Plus, 1-year term | $2,500 | $30,000 | $30,000 over 12 months |
| Advanced, billed yearly | $299 | $3,588 | $3,588 paid up front for 12 months |
| Advanced, billed monthly | $399 | $4,788 | One 30-day billing cycle |
The three-year term saves $200 a month: $2,400 a year, or $7,200 over the full term. In return you commit to $82,800 instead of $30,000. Shopify's pricing FAQ says a one- or three-year Plus term can be canceled when the commitment expires (shopify.com/pricing FAQ). So the choice is whether $7,200 is worth being tied in for two extra years.
The Plus card on Shopify's pricing page says "Try for $399". That is a paid trial at US$399 a month, lasting one to two months depending on your store. If you take no action before it ends, the store is enrolled in full Plus on the term you picked during trial setup (Shopify Help Center).
Shopify also lists fixed local Plus prices in euros, pounds, Australian dollars, yen, rupees and Canadian dollars, in the same help center table. Confirm in your contract which currency you will be billed in.
Above Plus, Shopify sells an Enterprise plan. Its old Commerce Components page now redirects to shopify.com/enterprise, which publishes no price and asks you to get in touch, so enterprise deals are quoted through sales.
How does the Shopify Plus variable platform fee work?
Shopify does not publish the variable fee. Its Plus pricing page says "more complex, higher volume businesses switch to a variable platform fee based on their revenue and business model", and the help center adds that the fee "differs for B2B and D2C companies" (shopify.com/plus/pricing and help.shopify.com, checked October 11, 2026). No rate, threshold or cap appears on either page.
Other articles about Plus pricing quote a percentage, a monthly sales trigger and a cap. We could not find any of those figures on a Shopify page on October 11, 2026, so we do not repeat them. If Shopify offers you a variable fee, get the rate, the sales level where it starts and any cap written into the contract.
You can still judge a variable quote by turning the flat fee into a share of sales. Shopify's wording is that businesses "switch to" the variable fee, so it replaces the flat fee. A variable rate below the share in this table costs less than the flat fee at that volume. A rate above it costs more.
| Annual sales | Flat fee as share of sales, 3-year term | Flat fee as share of sales, 1-year term |
|---|---|---|
| $1,000,000 | 2.76% ($27,600) | 3.00% ($30,000) |
| $5,000,000 | 0.55% ($27,600) | 0.60% ($30,000) |
| $20,000,000 | 0.14% ($27,600) | 0.15% ($30,000) |
Worked example: a store selling $20 million a year pays $27,600 on the three-year flat fee. $27,600 ÷ $20,000,000 = 0.138%. Any variable rate above 0.138% would cost that store more than the flat fee, before any cap.
What are Shopify Plus transaction and card fees?
On Shopify Payments, Plus card rates in the US start at 2.25% + 30¢ per online order, against 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced. If you use a third-party payment provider, Shopify adds 0.2% per transaction on Plus, against 0.6% on Advanced (shopify.com/pricing).
Shopify Payments rates on Plus
Shopify's US pricing page lists these rates by plan. The Plus pricing page says Plus card rates "vary by country" and refers you to sales, so read the Plus column as the advertised starting rate rather than a guaranteed one.
| Payment type (US) | Advanced | Plus (from) |
|---|---|---|
| Online, standard cards | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.25% + 30¢ |
| Online, premium cards | 3.1% + 30¢ | 2.95% + 30¢ |
| Online, international cards | + 1% | + 1% |
| In person, cards | 2.4% + 10¢ | 2.3% + 10¢ |
| In person, manually entered | 3.5% + 10¢ | 3.4% + 10¢ |
| PayPal Wallet | from 3.49% + 49¢ | from 3.49% + 49¢ |
"Premium cards" is Shopify's US category for higher-cost cards. The US page does not list American Express on its own row. International cards show as "+ 1%" on every plan, which reads as a surcharge on top of the domestic rate. Between Advanced and Plus the gap is 0.25 percentage points on standard online cards, 0.15 points on premium cards and 0.1 points in person. Those gaps drive the break-even later in this guide.
What Plus charges if you use a third-party gateway
If your main card processor is not Shopify Payments, you pay that processor's fees plus 0.2% per transaction to Shopify, which Shopify says covers "security and compliance costs" (shopify.com/plus/pricing). The same fee is 0.6% on Advanced, 1% on Grow and 2% on Basic.
The fee is calculated on the order total after discounts, including tax and shipping, and it is not returned when you refund. When Shopify Payments is active, orders paid through Shop Pay, Shop Pay Installments or manual methods such as bank transfer are not charged it (Shopify Help Center).
Since September 2026 a store can keep a third-party processor as its primary gateway and still run Shop Pay and local payment methods through Shopify Payments, at the standard rate plus a 1.25% premium. Plus merchants on signed contracts are not eligible for that setup yet (help.shopify.com, using Shopify Payments with a third-party provider, checked October 11, 2026).
What a $100 order costs on Plus and Advanced
On a $100 online order paid by standard card through Shopify Payments, Shopify keeps $2.55 on Plus and $2.80 on Advanced. The difference is 25 cents an order.
| $100 order | Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Online, standard card, Shopify Payments | $2.80 | $2.55 |
| Online, premium card, Shopify Payments | $3.40 | $3.25 |
| In person, card | $2.50 | $2.40 |
| Third-party gateway (Shopify's share only) | $0.60 | $0.20 |
The first row worked out: 2.5% of $100 is $2.50, plus 30¢, gives $2.80 on Advanced. 2.25% of $100 is $2.25, plus 30¢, gives $2.55 on Plus. The same order costs $3.20 on Basic and $3.00 on Grow. On the third-party row, your processor's own fee comes on top. To check fees for your own order values and payment mix, use our Shopify fee calculator.
Other payment fees on Plus
- Currency conversion: Shopify Payments charges 1.5% for US stores, and it is not returned on refunds (Shopify Help Center).
- Chargebacks: $15 per chargeback, taken when it opens and returned if you win (Shopify Help Center).
- Extended authorization: Plus can capture some card payments after the standard 7-day window, at an extra 1.75% (Shopify Help Center).
What is included in Shopify Plus?
Plus includes everything in Advanced, plus unlimited staff accounts, up to 200 inventory locations, unlimited B2B catalogs, full checkout customization and nine expansion stores next to your main store (shopify.com/pricing and help.shopify.com). This is the list Shopify publishes for the plan:
- Unlimited staff accounts (Advanced has 15).
- Up to 200 inventory locations (Advanced has 10).
- Unlimited B2B catalogs (Advanced allows up to 3), plus catalogs assigned to specific companies and locations, deposits and partial payments.
- Full checkout customization, including the Checkout Branding API. Other plans get limited customization.
- Custom apps built with Shopify Functions.
- Your main store plus 9 expansion stores, one brand per contract.
- 20 POS Pro locations, or up to 200 if you use Shopify Payments as your retail payment provider.
- Up to 25 headless storefronts (Advanced has 1).
- API limits up to 10x standard (Advanced is up to 2x).
- Up to 100 themes, unlimited staging stores and 1 TB of file storage per store.
- Launchpad for scheduled sales, and Shopify Audiences.
- Priority 24/7 support.
Most of that list is permission to build rather than finished work. Checkout extensions, custom Functions and expansion-store setups need a developer, which is the cost the next section prices. The feature-by-feature comparison is in Shopify Plus vs Shopify.
What does Shopify Plus cost on top of the license?
Shopify names three costs outside the Plus fee: custom development by a Plus Partner, one-time theme purchases and third-party apps (Shopify Help Center). The build alone can cost less than a year of the license or several times more, depending on scope. In the year-one table below it is $10,511 at $1M in sales and $105,108 at $20M.
Expansion stores and themes
Nine expansion stores are included. Each store beyond that costs CA$450 a month in Canada or €250 in euros, "or a revenue share across all stores" (shopify.com/plus/pricing). We did not find the US dollar price on a Shopify page, so ask for it in your quote. Each live expansion store also needs its own theme license, and paid themes on the Shopify Theme Store cost $100 to $500, one time (themes.shopify.com).
Apps
App developers bill for their apps separately from the Plus fee. We do not give an app budget because we found no verifiable source for a typical Plus app stack. List the apps you run now, look up each one at the tier your order volume needs, and add the total to the year-one table below.
What an agency build adds
Moving an existing store from Advanced to Plus is a plan change. Your theme, products, orders and URLs stay where they are, and "Shopify doesn't charge you to migrate" (shopify.com/plus/pricing). The money goes on building the Plus-only features you upgraded for.
EVDEV is a Toronto agency and a Shopify Select Partner, not a Shopify Plus Partner. We publish our prices in Canadian dollars. Here they are, converted at the Bank of Canada rate of 1.4271 for October 9, 2026:
| EVDEV service (published price) | CAD | About USD at 1.4271 |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Plus store project | CA$15,000 to CA$150,000 | $10,511 to $105,108 |
| Plus store: conversion-focused theme customization | around CA$15,000 to CA$30,000 | about $10,500 to $21,000 |
| Shopify development, fixed price | from CA$3,000 | from $2,102 |
| Shopify migration, fixed price | from CA$2,000 | from $1,401 |
| Monthly support plan, after the 3 months of support included with every project | from CA$299 a month | from $210 a month |
These are our prices for our work, not market averages. We fix the quote before work starts and invoice in CAD, so the US dollar amount moves with the exchange rate. After the plan change, our Plus projects take 4 to 6 weeks, and that time goes on the checkout, B2B and integration work you upgraded for. Scope sets where a project lands in the range. A checkout extension and one Functions app sit near the bottom. Expansion stores with separate catalogs, B2B price lists and an ERP integration push it toward the top.
How we scope Plus work is on our Shopify Plus agency page. If you need a new store rather than a plan upgrade, see how much a Shopify website costs. For a move from another platform, see Shopify migration cost.
What is the total cost of Shopify Plus at $1M, $5M and $20M a year?
In year one, Plus costs about $67,900 at $1 million in sales, $194,400 at $5 million and $647,000 at $20 million, once card processing, a build and our monthly support plan are added to the one-year license. The license alone is 3% of sales at $1 million and 0.15% at $20 million.
The assumptions, so you can replace them with your own: one-year term; every order is an online standard card on Shopify Payments at Plus's advertised 2.25% + 30¢; a $100 average order; build costs are points in EVDEV's published Plus range converted at 1.4271. Apps and the variable fee are left out because neither has a published figure.
| Year-one line (USD) | $1M in sales | $5M in sales | $20M in sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus license, 1-year term ($2,500 × 12) | $30,000 | $30,000 | $30,000 |
| Orders at a $100 average | 10,000 | 50,000 | 200,000 |
| Card processing (2.25% of sales + 30¢ per order) | $25,500 | $127,500 | $510,000 |
| Build (CA$15,000 / CA$50,000 / CA$150,000) | $10,511 | $35,036 | $105,108 |
| Monthly support plan, months 4 to 12 (9 × CA$299) | $1,886 | $1,886 | $1,886 |
| Year-one total | $67,897 | $194,422 | $646,994 |
| Total as a share of sales | 6.8% | 3.9% | 3.2% |
| License as a share of sales | 3.0% | 0.6% | 0.15% |
The processing line at $5 million, worked: 2.25% × $5,000,000 = $112,500, plus 50,000 orders × $0.30 = $15,000, for $127,500. On the three-year term, take $2,400 off each total. If you run more than nine expansion stores, add the extra-store fee from your quote. In year two the build drops out and the license plus processing make up most of the bill.
You pay card processing on every plan, so the useful question is how much more Plus costs than Advanced. The next section answers that.
When does Shopify Plus pay for itself compared with Advanced?
On published card rates alone, Plus becomes cheaper than Advanced at about $9.6 million a year in online card sales on the three-year term, or $10.6 million on the one-year term. With a third-party gateway the point is lower, at about $6.0 million or $6.6 million. These figures assume you stay on the flat license fee; at these volumes Shopify may quote a variable platform fee instead, which changes the result. Below those levels, Plus has to pay for itself through features.
The formula is: break-even annual sales = yearly license gap ÷ rate saving. Against Advanced billed yearly, the license gap is $2,300 − $299 = $2,001 a month ($24,012 a year) on the three-year term, and $2,500 − $299 = $2,201 a month ($26,412 a year) on the one-year term.
- Shopify Payments, standard online cards, saving 0.25 points: $24,012 ÷ 0.0025 = $9,604,800 a year (3-year term); $26,412 ÷ 0.0025 = $10,564,800 (1-year term).
- Third-party gateway, saving 0.4 points (0.6% down to 0.2%): $24,012 ÷ 0.004 = $6,003,000 a year; $26,412 ÷ 0.004 = $6,603,000.
- Premium cards only, saving 0.15 points: $24,012 ÷ 0.0015 = $16,008,000 a year.
The 30¢ per order is the same on both plans, so it cancels out. If Shopify writes a lower rate than 2.25% into your contract, the break-even falls, and the formula works the same with your number. For comparison, Shopify's help center estimates that Advanced pays for itself over Grow at about $1.32 million a year in US sales on Shopify Payments (Shopify Help Center). It publishes no such estimate for Plus.
| Platform and card fees, year one | $1M in sales | $5M in sales | $20M in sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced, billed yearly | $31,588 | $143,588 | $563,588 |
| Plus, 1-year term | $55,500 | $157,500 | $540,000 |
| Plus, 3-year term | $53,100 | $155,100 | $537,600 |
| Plus minus Advanced, 1-year term | +$23,912 | +$13,912 | −$23,588 |
| Plus minus Advanced, 3-year term | +$21,512 | +$11,512 | −$25,988 |
The table uses the same assumptions as the year-one table: $100 orders and standard online cards on Shopify Payments, at 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced and 2.25% + 30¢ on Plus. At $1 million, Advanced costs $3,588 + $25,000 + $3,000 = $31,588 and Plus on the one-year term costs $30,000 + $22,500 + $3,000 = $55,500.
Retail locations can close the gap sooner
POS Pro costs $89 a month per location on Advanced. Plus includes 20 POS Pro locations, or up to 200 if Shopify Payments is your retail payment provider (shopify.com/pricing and shopify.com/pos/pricing). That is $1,068 a year per location on Advanced. A retailer with 10 locations saves $10,680 a year on Plus, which cuts the three-year license gap from $24,012 to $13,332. If Shopify Payments is your retail payment provider, so that Plus covers all your locations, then at 23 locations Advanced's POS Pro bill of $24,564 is larger than the whole gap. With Shopify's US yearly POS Pro offer of $67 a month per location, that point moves to 30 locations.
Payback when the reason is a feature
Most stores below the fee break-even move to Plus for a capability, such as a checkout change or more B2B catalogs. The test then is: (extra platform cost per month) + (build cost ÷ payback months) = the gross margin Plus has to add each month.
At $5 million a year on the one-year term, Plus costs $13,912 more than Advanced in platform and card fees, or $1,159 a month. A CA$50,000 build ($35,036) recovered over 12 months is $2,920 a month. So Plus has to add $4,079 a month in gross margin, about 1% of the $416,667 the store sells each month. At $1 million a year with a CA$15,000 build, the same sum is $1,993 + $876 = $2,869 a month, about 3.4% of monthly sales. That is a much harder target.
These examples use our own price range and are not a forecast for your store. Put your own volumes through the formula, and use the Shopify fee calculator for the card and transaction fees on the standard plans.
Shopify Plus vs Advanced: which should you choose?
Choose Advanced unless you need something only Plus offers, or you process enough card volume for the lower rates to cover the license gap. The table shows where the two plans differ in the US (shopify.com/pricing and help.shopify.com).
| Advanced vs Plus (US) | Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $399 a month, or $299 a month billed yearly | $2,500 a month (1-year term) or $2,300 (3-year term) |
| Online card rate, Shopify Payments | 2.5% + 30¢ | from 2.25% + 30¢ |
| Third-party gateway fee | 0.6% | 0.2% |
| Staff accounts | 15 | Unlimited |
| Inventory locations | 10 | 200 |
| B2B catalogs | Up to 3 | Unlimited |
| Checkout customization | Limited | Full |
| Expansion stores | None (Plus feature) | 9, plus the main store |
| POS Pro | $89 a month per location | 20 locations included, 200 with Shopify Payments |
| Headless storefronts | 1 | 25 |
| API limits | Up to 2x | Up to 10x |
| Support | Enhanced live chat | Priority 24/7 |
When Advanced is enough
Advanced is enough if the checkout customization it allows meets your needs, three B2B catalogs cover your wholesale price lists, 15 staff accounts and 10 locations are enough, and you sell well under about $9.6 million a year online. Then the $24,012 a year you would pay over Advanced on the three-year Plus term is better spent on the store itself. If the store is not converting well today, fix that before paying for a bigger plan.
When should you upgrade to Shopify Plus?
Upgrade when you need a feature only Plus has, whatever your sales. Any one of these is a reason:
- You need checkout changes beyond what the standard plans allow, or custom apps built with Shopify Functions.
- You sell wholesale with more than three B2B catalogs, or need deposits, partial payments or catalogs assigned to specific companies.
- You want separate stores for different countries or channels under one brand on a single contract.
- You need more than 15 staff accounts or 10 inventory locations, or your POS Pro fees are close to the license gap.
- Your integrations hit Advanced's API limits.
If none of these applies and your sales are below the break-even, staying on Advanced is the cheaper choice.
Is Shopify Plus worth it?
Shopify Plus is worth it when you need a Plus-only feature and the build behind it pays back in a period you can accept, or when your online card sales are high enough, roughly $9.6 million a year or more on the flat fee, for the lower rates to cover the license. At that volume, ask whether Shopify would move you to a variable platform fee, because that changes the sum. Below that volume, without a Plus-only need, Advanced is the better buy.
Five steps give you the answer for your own store:
- Name the Plus-only feature you need. If you cannot name one, stay on Advanced.
- Take the license gap over Advanced billed yearly: $2,001 a month on the three-year term or $2,201 on the one-year term.
- Subtract your monthly fee savings: 0.25% of a month's online standard-card sales on Shopify Payments (or 0.4% through a third-party gateway), plus any POS Pro fees you would stop paying.
- Get a fixed build quote for the Plus-only work and divide it by the number of months you are willing to wait for payback. That gives a monthly build cost.
- Add the monthly build cost from step 4 to what is left of the gap after step 3, and compare that monthly total with the extra gross margin the feature should bring in. If you cannot estimate that margin, test the idea on Advanced first where you can.
Shopify Plus pricing in Canada (CAD)
Shopify lists Canadian Plus prices in Canadian dollars: CA$3,400 a month on a three-year term or CA$3,650 on a one-year term (help.shopify.com, Shopify Plus plan page, checked October 11, 2026). Shopify's help pages disagree on whether the full Plus plan is then billed in CAD or in USD, so confirm the billing currency in your contract. Card rates and POS Pro prices also differ in Canada. Our Shopify Plus cost in Canada guide has the CAD figures and Canadian worked budgets, and Shopify pricing in Canada covers the standard plans.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Shopify Plus per month?
Shopify Plus is $2,300 a month on a three-year term or $2,500 a month on a one-year term in the US, billed monthly (Shopify Help Center). Larger or more complex businesses may be moved to a variable platform fee based on revenue, which Shopify quotes privately and does not publish.
How much does the Shopify platform cost?
In the US, Basic is $39 a month or $29 billed yearly, Grow is $105 or $79, Advanced is $399 or $299, and Plus starts at $2,300 a month (shopify.com/pricing). The Agentic plan has no monthly fee and card rates from 2.9% + 30¢, but it cannot publish an online store. Card processing, apps and paid themes cost extra on every plan.
How much does Shopify take from a $100 sale?
On a $100 online order paid by standard card through Shopify Payments, Shopify keeps $3.20 on Basic, $3.00 on Grow, $2.80 on Advanced and $2.55 on Plus. With a third-party gateway, Shopify takes $2.00, $1.00, $0.60 or $0.20 on top of your processor's fee (shopify.com/pricing).
Is Shopify Plus a contract, and how long is it?
Yes. Plus is sold on a one-year or three-year term and billed monthly. Shopify's FAQ says you can cancel either term when the commitment expires (shopify.com/pricing FAQ). The three-year term totals $82,800, which is $7,200 less than paying the one-year price for 36 months.
Can you negotiate Shopify Plus pricing?
Shopify publishes the term prices as fixed figures. What it sets with you through sales is the card rate, which its Plus page says varies by country, the variable platform fee for larger businesses, and the US dollar price of expansion stores beyond the nine included. Get each of those in writing before you sign.
Can you downgrade from Shopify Plus to Advanced?
Shopify's FAQ says a one- or three-year Plus term can be canceled when the commitment expires. It does not publish a way to leave early, so plan on paying the full term. Plan downgrades take effect at the end of the billing cycle (Shopify Help Center).
How much does a Shopify Plus migration cost?
Shopify does not charge to move a store onto Plus (shopify.com/plus/pricing). An upgrade from Advanced is a plan change, so the cost is the work on Plus-only features. EVDEV's Plus projects run CA$15,000 to CA$150,000, about US$10,511 to US$105,108 at the October 9, 2026 Bank of Canada rate, and our migrations from another platform start at CA$2,000, about US$1,401. Shopify migration cost covers replatforming in detail, and you can ask us for a fixed quote.
What's the difference between Shopify and Shopify Plus?
Shopify Plus is Shopify's top plan, on the same platform as Basic, Grow and Advanced. It adds unlimited staff, nine expansion stores, unlimited B2B catalogs, full checkout customization, higher API limits and lower card and gateway fees, for $2,300 or $2,500 a month instead of $399 or less. The full comparison is in Shopify Plus vs Shopify.
Is there a free trial of Shopify Plus?
No. The Plus trial is paid, at US$399 a month, and lasts one to two months depending on your store. It rolls into a full Plus plan if you take no action (Shopify Help Center). The standard plans have a 3-day free trial, then $1 a month for 3 months.
