- Shopify Plus pricing for Canadian merchants, line by line. The CA$3,400 and CA$3,650 terms, the fees on every sale, what the fee does not cover, three worked first-year budgets, and the volume where the upgrade pays back.
Table of contents
Shopify Plus pricing in Canada starts at CA$3,400 a month on a three-year term, or CA$3,650 a month on a one-year term, billed monthly. Those are the figures on shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing and shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, checked 4 September 2026. Google's AI Overview shows the same figures for the query, because it cites the same pages.
The headline number is the easy part. Every third-party page ranking for it quotes it in US dollars. None of them does the Canadian arithmetic. The fee per year, the gap to Advanced in CAD, what Shopify does not bill for, what a build costs on top, and the volume at which the whole thing pays back.
This page is that budget: the Shopify Plus cost in Canada, line by line. Every figure carries its source and the date we checked it. Where Shopify does not publish a number, we say so. We do not borrow an estimate from another agency's blog.
Two other pages on this site cover the neighbouring questions. Shopify Plus vs Shopify has the feature matrix. Shopify Plus migration: is it worth it argues whether you should upgrade at all. This one is about money.
What Shopify Plus pricing looks like in Canada right now
Shopify lists Plus in Canadian dollars, so there is no exchange rate to guess at. The table puts the two Plus terms next to Advanced, on both billing cycles. Advanced is the plan most merchants upgrade from. All figures are from shopify.com/ca/pricing and shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, checked 4 September 2026.
| Plan and term | Per month | Per year | Minimum commitment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Plus, 3-year term | CA$3,400 | CA$40,800 | CA$122,400 over 36 months |
| Shopify Plus, 1-year term | CA$3,650 | CA$43,800 | CA$43,800 over 12 months |
| Advanced, billed yearly | CA$389 | CA$4,668 | CA$4,668 over 12 months |
| Advanced, billed monthly | CA$517 | CA$6,204 | One month |
The three-year discount is CA$250 a month, or CA$3,000 a year. Set that against a CA$122,400 commitment. The CA$3,000 is what you pay for the right to leave after twelve months. The worth-it article makes the case for taking the one-year term first. The budget view here shows what that choice costs.
The gap that drives the payback maths is Plus minus Advanced. On the three-year term, against Advanced billed yearly, it is CA$3,011 a month, or CA$36,132 a year. On the one-year term it is CA$3,261 a month, or CA$39,132 a year.
One line on the Canadian pricing grid is easy to miss. The Plus card reads "Try for $517", which is the Advanced monthly price (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). Shopify does not publish the trial's length or conditions on that page. Ask sales what it covers before you treat it as a free look.
How the variable platform fee works
The CA$3,400 and CA$3,650 figures are for what Shopify calls "standard setups and integrations". Its Plus pricing FAQ says that "more complex, higher volume businesses switch to a variable platform fee based on their revenue and business model" (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, 4 September 2026). The help centre adds that the variable fee "differs for B2B and D2C companies" (help.shopify.com, Shopify Plus plan page, 4 September 2026).
That is the whole of what Shopify publishes. There is no public threshold, no percentage and no cap. You will see figures elsewhere, such as 0.25% or 0.40% of sales, a US$800,000 monthly trigger or a US$40,000 cap. Those come from other agencies' articles, not Shopify's price list.
For a Canadian merchant this is the largest unknown in the budget. Suppose your growth plan takes you past the flat-fee band inside a three-year term. The fee then stops being CA$3,400 and becomes a share of revenue on terms you have not seen. Before you sign, get the threshold, the percentage and the cap written into the contract. Or get written confirmation that the flat fee applies for the full term.
Shopify Plus fees on every sale
Plus charges one of two per-transaction fees. Which one applies depends on your primary payment gateway.
If Shopify Payments is your primary gateway, you pay card processing and nothing further to Shopify. The Canadian pricing grid lists Plus card rates "from 2.15% + 30¢ CAD", against 2.4% + 30¢ on Advanced (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). The Plus pricing page adds that "card rates vary by country" and points you to sales. Treat 2.15% as an advertised floor, not your rate.
If a third-party processor is your primary gateway, you pay that processor's fees plus 0.20% per transaction to Shopify "for security and compliance costs" (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, 4 September 2026). On the standard plans the same surcharge is 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). The drop from 0.6% to 0.2% is the only Plus payment saving Shopify publishes as a number.
Neither rate is fixed until it is in your contract. If a quote names the platform fee but describes processing only as "competitive", it has left out the figure that decides whether the upgrade pays. Ask for the number.
What does Shopify Plus include?
Shopify's Canadian pricing page describes Plus as "Everything in Advanced" plus unlimited staff accounts, fully customisable checkout, up to 200 POS Pro locations, unlimited B2B catalogues and priority 24/7 phone support (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026).
The platform fee also covers your main store and nine expansion stores, on the condition of "one brand per contract" (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, 4 September 2026). A second brand needs a second Plus contract. Shopify's upgrade page notes that the same logo is used across all expansion stores (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, 4 September 2026).
On the developer side, three capabilities are Plus-only: checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps, the Checkout Branding API, and custom apps containing Shopify Functions. Plus also raises the Admin GraphQL limit to 1,000 points a second, against 200 on Advanced (shopify.dev, API rate limits page, checked 4 September 2026). Within B2B, Plus adds unlimited catalogues, direct catalogue assignment to companies and locations, and deposits and partial payments.
Everything in that list is a capability, not a finished feature. Someone has to build the checkout extensions, write the Functions and configure the expansion stores.
The fee buys the right to do that work. The work itself is a separate bill, and the next two sections price it.
Why is Shopify Plus so expensive?
Usually the plan fee is not the expensive part. It is the most visible line in a Plus budget. Once a large build is involved, it is the smallest of the three.
Shopify's own FAQ answers "What other costs are there?" with: "None, but if you need custom development you should factor a Shopify Plus Partners into your budget. Other optional costs are one-time theme purchases and any third-party apps you need" (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, 4 September 2026). Read that sentence as a list of what sits outside the fee.
Stores beyond the nine included expansion stores cost "an extra $450 CAD per month per store, or a revenue share across all stores" (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, 4 September 2026). That is CA$5,400 a year per additional store.
Each live expansion store also needs its own theme licence (help.shopify.com, Shopify Plus plan page, 4 September 2026). Paid themes on the Shopify Theme Store are a one-time US$100 to US$500. Most sit between US$180 and US$420 (themes.shopify.com, 4 September 2026).
Apps are extra. We will not put a number on them, because the number is yours. Take the apps you run today. Look each one up on the App Store at the tier your order volume needs, and add the total to the plan fee. Competitor articles quote monthly app stacks in the low thousands. Those are estimates from their own articles, not a price list.
The third cost is the build. It is the reason the plan fee can look small.
What a Shopify Plus build costs in Canada
Moving from Advanced to Plus is a plan change. Your theme, products, orders and URLs stay exactly as they are. The move itself costs nothing to build. What costs money is building the Plus-only features you upgraded for.
EVDEV is a Shopify Select Partner, not a Shopify Plus Partner, and we publish our ranges rather than quoting them privately. Shopify Plus store projects typically run CAD 15,000 to 150,000. A conversion-focused theme customisation runs around CAD 15,000 to 30,000 (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). Those are our figures for our work, not market averages. The market is wider in both directions.
A Plus migration engagement with us takes four to six weeks. Every project is fixed-price before work starts and includes three months of post-launch support. Maintenance after that starts at CA$299 a month (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). Scope sets where a project lands in the range. A checkout extension and one Functions app sit at the low end. Expansion stores with separate catalogues, negotiated B2B pricing structures and an ERP integration move it toward the top.
Agency fees in Ontario carry 13% HST. On a CA$15,000 build that is CA$1,950; on CA$150,000 it is CA$19,500. Budget for it. The pricing comparison pages never do.
If you are comparing who should do the work, three pages help. Shopify development cost in Canada covers Canadian rates by engagement type, and how much a Shopify expert costs covers freelancer against agency pricing. Shopify migration cost covers what moves a replatform quote, if you are coming to Plus from another platform rather than from Advanced. Our Shopify development and Shopify migration services pages show how we scope and price.
What we build on Plus specifically, and how a Plus engagement is scoped, is on the Shopify Plus agency page.
First-year total: three worked budgets
This is year one with the plan fee, the build and the tax on one page. We use the one-year Plus term, because it is the term we recommend the first time. Build tiers are the bottom, middle and top of EVDEV's published range, not market averages.
Maintenance covers months four to twelve. The first three are included in the project.
| Line (CAD, checked 4 September 2026) | Small build | Mid build | Large build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus plan fee, 1-year term (CA$3,650 × 12) | CA$43,800 | CA$43,800 | CA$43,800 |
| Build (EVDEV published range) | CA$15,000 | CA$50,000 | CA$150,000 |
| HST 13% on build | CA$1,950 | CA$6,500 | CA$19,500 |
| Maintenance, months 4 to 12 (9 × CA$299) | CA$2,691 | CA$2,691 | CA$2,691 |
| HST 13% on maintenance | CA$350 | CA$350 | CA$350 |
| First-year total | CA$63,791 | CA$103,341 | CA$216,341 |
| Share that is Shopify's plan fee | 69% | 42% | 20% |
Three things are left out on purpose. Apps, because the figure is yours to look up. Payment processing, because you already pay a percentage of sales on Advanced, and the only question is how much lower the Plus rate comes in. Tax on Shopify's plan fee is out too. We have not verified how Shopify bills it and will not guess.
On the three-year term, subtract CA$3,000 from each total. If you switch on a tenth expansion store, add CA$5,400. If your gateway is a third-party processor, the 0.2% surcharge is a cost until you set it against the 0.6% you were paying on Advanced.
Read the last row. In the small-build case Shopify takes about seven dollars in ten. In the large-build case the plan fee is a fifth of the budget. Most pages ranking for this keyword discuss the fifth and skip the rest.
When Shopify Plus pays for itself
Payback has two sides: the fee saving and the value of the capability. Both are arithmetic you can redo on the figures above.
Start with the fee side, using only the saving Shopify publishes. The third-party gateway surcharge falls from 0.6% to 0.2%, a saving of 0.4 points. Divide the monthly fee gap by 0.004 and you get the gateway volume that covers it.
On the three-year term, CA$3,011 ÷ 0.004 = CA$752,750 a month, roughly CA$9.0 million a year. On the one-year term, CA$3,261 ÷ 0.004 = CA$815,250 a month, roughly CA$9.8 million a year.
That only applies if you are not on Shopify Payments. If you are, the 0.6% never fired. Your saving is then the distance between 2.4% + 30¢ on Advanced and whatever rate Shopify writes into your Plus contract. Shopify does not publish that rate.
The worth-it article has the sensitivity table for reductions from 0.10 to 0.40 points. We will not repeat it here. One line from it matters: even at the advertised 2.15% floor, the reduction is a quarter of a point. At a quarter of a point, the CA$3,011 gap needs about CA$1.2 million a month of processed volume.
Now the capability side. This is where Plus earns its fee for most merchants below that volume. The formula is build cost ÷ monthly margin the build adds = months to payback.
Take a CA$30,000 checkout build, the top of our published theme-customisation range. To pay back in twelve months it has to add CA$2,500 a month of margin. Add the fee gap. The whole decision then has to produce CA$5,511 a month of new margin in year one on the three-year term, or CA$5,761 on the one-year term.
Those are illustrative figures built from our own ranges, not a forecast for your store. The shape is what matters. The plan fee is a fixed monthly cost. The build is a one-time cost. A lower card rate, a measurable gain from the features, or both together have to cover them. Write both figures down before you talk to sales.
Shopify's own guidance sits alongside this. Its Canadian upgrade page says "brands typically upgrade to Shopify Plus when their online sales reach about US$80,000 per month, but individual needs may vary" (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, 4 September 2026). Shopify states that trigger in US dollars. We will not convert it with an exchange rate we have not checked.
Do your own version instead. Divide CA$3,011 by your monthly online sales. If the result is more than a few percent of revenue, the fee is a large slice. Plus then only pays if you use what is Plus-only.
If the store is under-converting today, price a fix before you price an upgrade. Our audit of 5,410 live Shopify stores lists the storefront problems that cost sales on every plan. A larger invoice from Shopify solves none of them.
When Advanced at CA$389 is enough
Which is better, Shopify or Shopify Plus? For a large share of merchants asking about Shopify Plus pricing, the answer is Advanced at CA$389 a month. 2026 moved several former Plus features down the ladder.
Since 2 April 2026, Basic, Grow and Advanced include the core of B2B at no extra cost (Shopify plan change of 2 April 2026, checked 4 September 2026). That means company profiles, payment terms, volume pricing, vaulted credit cards and up to three active B2B catalogues. Wholesale no longer forces you onto Plus. Plus is still required for unlimited catalogues, direct catalogue assignment, and deposits and partial payments.
Functions apps from the Shopify App Store run on every plan. Only custom apps containing Functions are Plus-only. If an App Store app already covers your discount or delivery logic, Advanced does it.
Checkout extensions are not Plus-only across the board. shopify.dev tells non-Plus stores still running script tags on the Thank you and Order status pages to move to Shopify Extensions in Checkout. So those two pages are extensible on every plan (shopify.dev checkout upgrade notes, checked 4 September 2026). What stays Plus-only is extending the three checkout steps where the customer enters information, chooses shipping and pays, plus the Checkout Branding API.
So the test is short. You need Plus if you must change those three checkout steps or need a custom Function. You also need it for more than three B2B catalogues, for several storefronts on one contract, or if you are throttling on the Advanced API limit. In that case Plus is a capability purchase, and the pricing above is what it costs.
If none of those is true, the CA$36,132-a-year gap is money the store can spend on things that move revenue. Shopify Plus vs Shopify has the full feature matrix. Shopify Plus migration: is it worth it walks through the decision.
Shopify Plus pricing in Canada vs other currencies
Shopify bills Plus in the currency of your billing country and lists a fixed price per currency. A Canadian merchant pays the CAD figure with no conversion. The help centre publishes the full table (help.shopify.com, Shopify Plus plan page, 4 September 2026).
| Currency | 1-year term, per month | 3-year term, per month |
|---|---|---|
| USD | $2,500 | $2,300 |
| CAD | $3,650 | $3,400 |
| EUR | €2,250 | €2,100 |
| GBP | £1,950 | £1,800 |
| AUD | $4,000 | $3,700 |
| JPY | ¥398,000 | ¥368,000 |
| INR | ₹190,000 | ₹175,000 |
So articles that quote US$2,300 are not wrong, just not about you. An older figure of about CAD 2,300 still ranks for this query in Canada, and that one is wrong. It is the US price with the currency label changed. The Canadian Shopify Plus price was CA$3,400 and CA$3,650 when we checked on 12 August 2026 and again on 4 September 2026.
What to ask for before you sign
From Shopify, get four figures in writing. The card rate and per-transaction amount for every currency you sell in. The platform fee and its term. The variable fee threshold, percentage and cap. The cost of any store beyond the ninth. Shopify publishes the second and part of the fourth; the rest you have to request.
From whoever builds the Plus-only features, get a fixed price split by workstream: checkout extensions, Functions, expansion stores, B2B configuration, integrations. A single total with no breakdown cannot be compared with anything, including the first-year table above.
If you want the arithmetic run on your own revenue and app stack, book a call and bring your last twelve months of processed volume. We will tell you whether the fee gap clears. When the answer is Advanced, we say so.
Common questions
How much does Shopify Plus cost per month in Canada?
CA$3,400 a month on a three-year term, or CA$3,650 a month on a one-year term, billed monthly, for standard setups (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing and shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, checked 4 September 2026). Higher-volume or more complex merchants move to a variable platform fee. Shopify quotes that fee privately and does not publish it.
What are Shopify Plus transaction fees?
With Shopify Payments as your primary gateway there is no additional Shopify fee. Card rates are listed "from 2.15% + 30¢ CAD" and vary by country (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). With a third-party processor as primary gateway you pay its fees plus 0.20% per transaction to Shopify, against 0.6% on Advanced (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing and shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026).
Is there a Shopify Plus contract, and how long is it?
Yes. Shopify prices Plus on a one-year or three-year term, billed monthly (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, 4 September 2026). The three-year term saves CA$250 a month, or CA$3,000 a year, in exchange for a CA$122,400 minimum commitment. We recommend the one-year term the first time, and three years at renewal once the store is using what it pays for.
How much is Shopify per month Canadian?
Checked on shopify.com/ca/pricing on 4 September 2026: Basic CA$49 a month billed monthly or CA$37 billed yearly, Grow CA$132 or CA$99, Advanced CA$517 or CA$389. Plus starts at CA$3,400 on a three-year term or CA$3,650 on a one-year term. Card rates are 2.8%, 2.6% and 2.4% plus 30¢ on the three standard plans, and from 2.15% plus 30¢ on Plus.
Is Shopify Plus worth it?
On the fee alone, only at very high volume. The one published saving is the third-party gateway surcharge falling from 0.6% to 0.2%. Covering the CA$3,011 monthly gap to Advanced with that saving takes about CA$752,750 a month in gateway sales. Below that, Plus is worth it when you need something only Plus can do. That means changing the information, shipping or payment steps of checkout, running a custom Function, or holding more than three B2B catalogues. The build that delivers it also has to pay back in a period you can live with.
Is Shopify Plus worth it at CA$1 million a year?
Run the arithmetic. At CA$1 million a year the CA$36,132 annual fee gap to Advanced is 3.6% of revenue. The published gateway saving at that volume is 0.4% of CA$1 million, or CA$4,000 a year. That leaves CA$32,132 to be covered by a negotiated card rate Shopify does not publish, or by a measurable gain from Plus-only features. Without a Plus-only requirement, the numbers point to Advanced.
Does Shopify Plus include a developer?
No. Shopify's Plus pricing FAQ says that if you need custom development you should "factor a Shopify Plus Partners into your budget" (shopify.com/ca/plus/pricing, 4 September 2026). Its upgrade page says building a custom app "would require working with a developer" (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, 4 September 2026). Build and integration work is a separate cost on top of the platform fee.
How long does moving to Shopify Plus take?
The plan change itself is not a rebuild. Your theme, products, orders and URLs stay as they are. Building the Plus-only features is the part that takes time. An EVDEV Plus migration engagement runs four to six weeks and includes three months of post-launch support (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). Coming from another platform entirely is a replatform, and Shopify migration cost covers that separately.
Is Shopify still worth it in 2026?
That is a platform question rather than a Plus question. The cost side is public: CA$37 to CA$517 a month on the standard plans and CA$3,400 or CA$3,650 on Plus (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026), with the build, apps and processing on top. For most merchants asking about Plus, the better 2026 question is whether Advanced at CA$389 now covers what used to need Plus. B2B moved to every plan on 2 April 2026, and Functions apps run on every plan.
