Shopify Plus agency for development and migration based in Toronto, priced in CAD
A Shopify Plus agency builds, migrates and supports stores on Shopify's enterprise plan. It also does the work that plan makes possible: checkout UI extensions, custom Shopify Functions, unlimited B2B catalogues, expansion stores and high-volume ERP syncs. EVDEV is a Shopify Select Partner in Toronto, not a Plus Partner. We build on Plus for Canadian and international brands, and every project is quoted at a fixed price before work starts. Moving from Advanced to Plus is a plan change, so your theme, products, orders and URLs stay where they are. Our Plus migration engagements run 4–6 weeks (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026).

Shopify Plus development: what we build
Checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions
Only stores on a Shopify Plus plan can run checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps (shopify.dev, checkout UI extensions reference, 4 September 2026). The same rule covers custom apps that contain Shopify Function APIs (shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/functions, 4 September 2026). Shopify Scripts stopped executing on 30 June 2026 (evdev.dev/shopify-migration-cost, 4 September 2026). Any logic that lived in Scripts gets rebuilt as a Function.
- Custom fields, validation rules and upsells inside the three checkout steps
- Checkout Branding API: your type scale and colours in checkout, not Shopify's defaults
- Discount, delivery and payment Functions written for your rules and shipped in a custom app
- Rebuilding retired Shopify Scripts as Functions before the gap shows up in revenue
B2B beyond three catalogues
Since 2 April 2026, Basic, Grow and Advanced include company profiles, payment terms, volume pricing, vaulted cards and up to 3 B2B catalogues (rollout date per evdev.dev/shopify-plus-migration-worth-it; plan limits on shopify.com/ca/pricing, both checked 4 September 2026). Plus adds unlimited catalogues, direct catalogue assignment to companies and locations, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfilment (help.shopify.com Plus plan page, 4 September 2026). If three catalogues cover your account list, we will tell you so.
- Catalogue architecture for hundreds of individually negotiated price lists
- Direct assignment of catalogues to companies and their locations
- Deposits and partial payments for made-to-order and long-lead-time wholesale
- Wholesale and DTC on one store, or split across expansion stores
Expansion stores and Shopify Markets
A Plus contract covers the main store plus up to 9 expansion stores (shopify.com/ca/pricing and help.shopify.com Plus plan page, 4 September 2026). One brand can run separate catalogues, currencies or languages without paying for several Shopify accounts and administering each one. Some markets need their own store. Others only need Markets settings. We work out which is which with you.
- Expansion store setup and catalogue sync with the parent store
- Markets, local currencies and country domains
- One theme shared across stores with per-store content and pricing
- Order routing and inventory across regions
Plan migration from Advanced to Plus
Moving to Plus is a plan change, not a replatform. Your theme, products, orders and URLs stay as they are. What changes is the contract and what you are now allowed to build. Our Plus migration engagements run 4–6 weeks (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). That time goes on the checkout, B2B and integration work that made you upgrade in the first place.
- Contract review: card rate and per-transaction fee in writing for every currency before you sign
- Checkout extensibility build-out from day one of the new plan
- Rebuilding Scripts-era logic as Functions
- Platform migrations to Plus from Magento, WooCommerce or BigCommerce, 4–8 weeks end to end (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026)
ERP, 3PL and PIM integrations at 1,000 points per second
The Admin GraphQL rate limit is 100 points per second on standard plans, 200 on Advanced and 1,000 on Plus (shopify.dev/docs/api/usage/limits, 4 September 2026). Five times the headroom lets a nightly sync of a large catalogue finish before the store opens. We design the sync to stay inside that headroom instead of bumping against it.
- Inventory and order sync with ERP, WMS and 3PL systems
- Rules for which system owns inventory and what happens when two disagree
- Connector app first; custom middleware only when no connector fits
- Bulk operations for large catalogue imports and price updates
When Shopify Plus is worth it, and when Advanced is enough
Revenue is the wrong first question. Capability is. Four things force the upgrade whatever you sell. Changing the information, shipping or payment steps of checkout. A custom Function that no App Store app covers. Hundreds of wholesale accounts on individual pricing. Integrations that already throttle at Advanced's 200 points per second (shopify.dev/docs/api/usage/limits, 4 September 2026).
If none of those apply, the case rests on payments. The published saving is the third-party gateway fee. It falls from 0.6% on Advanced to 0.2% on Plus (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). The plan-fee gap is CA$3,011 a month, which is CA$3,400 minus CA$389 (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). A 0.4-point saving covers that gap at roughly CA$750,000 a month of gateway volume.
Stores on Shopify Payments do not pay that gateway fee at all (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). Their saving is the negotiated Plus card rate. Shopify publishes it only as "from 2.15% + 30¢" (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). Get the exact percentage in writing before anyone scopes an implementation.
Part of the old sales pitch is out of date. Core B2B moved down to every paid plan on 2 April 2026 (evdev.dev/shopify-plus-migration-worth-it, 4 September 2026). Shopify Scripts stopped executing on 30 June 2026 (evdev.dev/shopify-migration-cost, 4 September 2026). A feature list written before April 2026 will name B2B as a Plus-only feature, and it no longer is.
The full working out is in our article on whether a Shopify Plus migration is worth it. The feature-by-feature comparison is in Shopify Plus vs Shopify. If the numbers say stay on Advanced, we will tell you. The budget usually does more on the store itself, and our audit of 5,410 live Shopify stores shows where.
What a Shopify Plus build costs in Canada
None of the five competitor pages we checked for this query publishes a dated price or a price table (fetched 4 September 2026). Google's AI Overview for the query quotes a build range with no source attached (Google Canada, 4 September 2026). The numbers below are the ones we can stand behind: Shopify's Canadian list prices and our own published figures. All amounts are CAD, checked on 4 September 2026.

Five workstreams explain the spread in our project range: data, theme, apps, integrations and launch. A plan migration that keeps the current theme and adds two checkout extensions sits near the bottom. A replatform from Magento with an ERP writing to the store, a custom Functions app and three expansion stores sits near the top.
Ask any agency to price those five workstreams separately, and to price theme adaptation against a from-scratch build. What a Shopify migration actually costs sets out what moves a quote. Canadian rates are in Shopify development cost in Canada and what it costs to hire a Shopify expert.
Two costs sit outside any agency quote. Shopify moves more complex, higher-volume merchants off the flat Plus fee onto a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model. It does not publish the threshold (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, 4 September 2026). App subscriptions are the other cost. Price the stack at your order volume before you sign.
How we run Shopify Plus development and migration
Scoping first, then a fixed price. We map the five workstreams against your store and separate what is Plus-specific from what is not. Then we quote one number. It does not move unless the scope does, and you have it in hand before any work starts.
Plan migrations from Advanced take 4–6 weeks. Platform migrations to Plus take 4–8 weeks end to end (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). We stage the Plus-specific build so each piece ships and gets tested on its own rather than in one launch-day bundle.
Launch covers redirect mapping, QA across devices and payment methods, and 3 months of post-launch support (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). After that, maintenance runs from CA$299 a month (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026) if you want us to stay on the account. Results from earlier launches are in our portfolio.
Sometimes you need one skill rather than a whole project. Shopify Plus experts for a defined block of work are available through our Shopify experts and Shopify development pages. Replatforming from Magento, WooCommerce or BigCommerce is scoped through Shopify migration services.
How to choose a Shopify Plus agency, and what the partner tier means
Shopify tiers its partners as Select, Plus, Premier and Platinum. Its hiring guidance describes Select as "Typically preferred by small and medium businesses" and Plus as "Typically preferred by mid-market and larger businesses". Premier is "Typically preferred by large enterprises" and Platinum by "global enterprise businesses" (help.shopify.com/en/manual/partner-directory/hiring-help, 4 September 2026). The directory adds that "Partners are tiered based on multiple factors, including their history of experience and proven success on Shopify" (shopify.com/ca/partners/directory/services, 4 September 2026).
EVDEV is a Select Partner. We say so plainly because the tier is often misread as a licence. Checkout UI extensions, Functions, unlimited catalogues and expansion stores belong to the merchant's plan, not to the agency's badge. Any developer with the skills can build them on a Plus store.
The tier does signal the volume of past work, so ask about the work directly. Has the agency written a Shopify Function and shipped a checkout UI extension? How does it sync catalogues between an expansion store and the parent? What does its B2B reference project look like? How does the last sync it built handle a conflict between the ERP and Shopify? Then ask for the five workstreams priced separately.
Are Shopify experts worth it? On a Plus store, Shopify Plus experts usually are. The expensive mistakes are structural: a catalogue model that cannot be changed later, a checkout extension that fails review, a sync that throttles in month three. Hiring rates by tier, from freelancer to full-service agency, are set out in what it costs to hire a Shopify expert.
Lists of "top Shopify Plus agencies" are mostly written by agencies and app vendors, so read them that way. Shopify's own Partner Directory replaced the Experts Marketplace in October 2023 (help.shopify.com/en/manual/partner-directory, 4 September 2026). It is the neutral place to check a partner's tier and reviews. A Canadian agency also means CAD pricing and HST handled correctly, and working hours that overlap with Shopify's own teams in Ottawa and at The Well on King Street West in Toronto (Wikipedia, 4 September 2026).

Shopify Plus agency FAQ
- What is a Shopify Plus agency?
- A Shopify Plus agency is a Shopify partner that builds, migrates and supports stores on the Shopify Plus plan. It does the work that plan enables: checkout UI extensions, custom apps with Shopify Functions, unlimited B2B catalogues, expansion stores and integrations at the 1,000-point-per-second Admin API limit (shopify.dev and help.shopify.com, 4 September 2026). The label describes the work, not a Shopify tier. Partner tiers are Select, Plus, Premier and Platinum, and any tier can build on a Plus store.
- Are you a Shopify Plus Partner?
- No. EVDEV is a Shopify Select Partner based in Toronto. We have migrated Canadian and international brands from standard Shopify to Shopify Plus. Shopify describes the Select tier as "Typically preferred by small and medium businesses" and tiers partners on "history of experience and proven success on Shopify" (help.shopify.com and shopify.com/ca/partners/directory, 4 September 2026). Plus features belong to the merchant's plan, so a Select Partner can build every one of them.
- What is Shopify Plus?
- Shopify Plus is Shopify's enterprise plan. In Canada it costs from CA$3,400 a month on a 3-year term or CA$3,650 on a 1-year term, with card rates from 2.15% + 30¢ and unlimited staff (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade and shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). The plan adds checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps, custom Functions apps and unlimited B2B catalogues, plus 9 expansion stores, a 1,000-point-per-second Admin API limit and priority 24/7 support (help.shopify.com and shopify.dev, 4 September 2026).
- Is Shopify Plus worth it?
- It is worth it when a capability forces it: custom checkout steps, a custom Function, more than 3 B2B catalogues, several storefronts on one contract, or integrations throttling at Advanced's 200 points per second (shopify.dev, 4 September 2026). On fees alone, the published 0.4-point gateway saving covers the CA$3,011 monthly plan-fee gap at roughly CA$750,000 a month of third-party gateway volume (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). Below that, with no hard requirement, Advanced is usually the better spend.
- Which is better, Shopify or Shopify Plus?
- Neither is better in the abstract. Plus is the same platform with a larger contract and more room to customise. Advanced at CA$389 a month billed yearly covers most stores, and since 2 April 2026 it includes wholesale with up to 3 catalogues (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). Plus wins when you need to build inside checkout, ship custom Functions, run unlimited catalogues or expansion stores, or sync at five times the API rate. See Shopify Plus vs Shopify.
- How much does Shopify Plus cost in Canada?
- The plan starts at CA$3,400 a month on a 3-year term or CA$3,650 on a 1-year term. Higher-volume merchants move to a variable platform fee that Shopify quotes privately (shopify.com/ca/plus/upgrade, 4 September 2026). Agency work is separate. Our Plus store projects typically run CAD 15,000–150,000. Conversion-focused theme customisation is around CAD 15,000–30,000, and migrations start at CA$2,000. Every quote is fixed before work starts and subject to 13% Ontario HST (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026).
- How long does a Shopify Plus migration take?
- A plan migration from Advanced to Plus is a 4–6 week engagement. A platform migration to Plus from Magento, WooCommerce or BigCommerce runs 4–8 weeks end to end (evdev.dev, 4 September 2026). The plan change itself is quick because your theme, products, orders and URLs do not move. The time goes into the Plus-specific build and into testing it before it touches live checkout.
- Which companies use Shopify Plus?
- Shopify's Canadian Plus page shows Glossier, Mattel and Staples in its logo row and carries quotes from Momofuku, Brooklinen, Samsonite and Cotopaxi (shopify.com/ca/plus, 4 September 2026). We do not repeat the longer brand lists on agency blogs because we cannot verify them. To check whether a competitor is on Plus, look at its checkout. Custom fields or branding on the information, shipping and payment steps can only run on a Plus plan (shopify.dev, 4 September 2026).
- Which agencies are the top Shopify Plus agencies?
- No neutral ranking exists. The "top Shopify Plus agencies" lists that rank for this query are published by agencies and app vendors (Google Canada, 4 September 2026), so read them as marketing. Two places are independent: Shopify's Partner Directory, which shows each partner's tier and reviews, and Clutch, which publishes client reviews. Shortlist there, then ask the questions above and for the five workstreams priced separately. EVDEV is a Select Partner rated 5.0 on Clutch (clutch.co, 4 September 2026).
- Is Shopify still worth it in 2026?
- Shopify is still the platform we build on, and it is cheap to test. Basic costs CA$49 a month billed monthly or CA$37 billed yearly, after a 3-day free trial and 3 months at CA$1 a month (shopify.com/ca/pricing, 4 September 2026). Since 2 April 2026 every paid plan includes B2B with up to 3 catalogues. Plus is a separate decision, covered above. Where Shopify stores lose sales is set out in our audit of 5,410 live Shopify stores.
Agency scorecard
How to choose a Shopify Plus agency: a scorecard for Canadian merchants
The best Shopify Plus agency for you is the one that has already shipped what your store needs — not the one with the biggest client logos. Score each candidate on proof of Plus-specific work (checkout extensions, Shopify Functions, B2B), how they handle ERP integration, how their price is itemised, and what support looks like after launch. For Canadian merchants add CAD billing, French-language storefronts if you sell into Quebec, and Canadian tax setup.
| Criterion | What to ask | Good answer | Red flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Checkout work | Show us a checkout UI extension or Shopify Function you shipped. | A live store and what the extension does. | Talk of checkout.liquid, which Shopify has retired. |
| B2B | Which store runs Shopify B2B with company accounts, catalogs and payment terms? | A reference you can call. | B2B handled only with apps and hidden prices. |
| ERP integration | Which system owns inventory, prices and orders — and what happens when they disagree? | A written source-of-truth rule for each data type. | “The connector handles it.” |
| Pricing | Break the quote down by workstream. | Design, build, integrations, migration and QA priced separately. | One number with no breakdown. |
| Team | Who will actually work on our store? | Named people, in-house or disclosed subcontractors. | The team is decided after signing. |
| Launch and support | What happens in the first 30 days after launch? | Named on-call person and response times in the contract. | Support “as needed” at hourly rates. |
| Code ownership | Where does the code live when you are done? | In your store and a repository you own. | In the agency’s account. |
| Canada | CAD billing, Canadian tax setup, French storefront for Quebec? | Done before, with examples. | Not considered until launch. |
